AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Arrested In Delhi Wakf Board Corruption Case

The arrest comes after the ACB raided Amanatullah Khan's home and five other places in connection with the probe.

The Delhi Police's Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Friday in connection with the Delhi Wakf Board corruption case, ANI reported. The arrest comes after the ACB raided Amanatullah Khan's home and five other places in connection with the probe.

The ACB officials searched the homes of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and his business partner, Hamid Ali Khan Masood Usman. During the raid, officials discovered two pistol and several ammunition, as well as Rs 24 lakh in cash, from two of his associates, news agency ANI reported.

The officials alleged that during the searches, the team was attacked by the relatives and other persons known to the Okhla MLA outside his residence.

The charge was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020, and the Okhla MLA was contacted for an interview at 12 o'clock today.

A top official had earlier on Thursday stated that the Okhla MLA has been summoned for interrogation in relation to the case filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020 at 12 p.m on Friday, news agency PTI reported.

In response, Khan, the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, said in a snarky tweet that he had been summoned because he was constructing a new Waqf board headquarters.

The Delhi Waqf board's suspected recruiting irregularities are being looked into by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).

The Delhi Waqf Board head, Khan, was previously demanded to step down by the ACB for allegedly obstructing an investigation by "bullying" witnesses in a case against him.

According to sources cited by the news agency PTI, Mehboob Aalam, the former CEO of the Waqf Board, has also been sanctioned by the prosecution for offences including "deliberate and criminal violation" of rules, regulations, and the law, as well as "misuse of position" and causing financial losses to the exchequer.

In November 2016, the sub-divisional magistrate (headquarters) of the revenue department of the Delhi government submitted a complaint claiming "arbitrary and unlawful" appointments made by Khan to numerous open and unfilled positions within the Delhi Waqf Board.
